We have been shortlisted!

A few weeks ago we received the exciting news that we had been shortlisted for the Community Organisation Award for Disability in the National Diversity awards 2017. Over 22,000 nominations and votes were received this year, paying tribute to grass root communities nationwide. Therefore we are really honoured to have made it to the final 8 in our category.

On September 8th 2017 we will be heading to Liverpool's beautiful Anglican Cathedral for the award ceremony where charities and role models from across the UK will showcase their outstanding achievements in enhancing equality, diversity and inclusion in today’s society.

We would like to take this opportunity to again thank everyone who voted for us and share with you a few of the lovely things people said about us:

"Nickel support is a unique social enterprise for adults with learning disabilities. It is worlds away from the times of institutionalised day services, they truly value the differences and diversity of the trainees who access their service. The trainees have the opportunity to creatively utilise their diverse traits and skills by coming up with ideas for the service themselves e.g. The vintage cafe. There is a space for every unique person at nickel, in fact that is essential to its success. Every person and the diversity they bring is invaluable. Nickel support sees the abilities of people not disabilities."

"Nickel support is just too good for words. Our son attends as many sessions as possible as throughly enjoys his time there. He looks forward to going and calls it his job which makes him feel just like everyone else in the community. He is learning skills as well as social and how to communicate better. His confidence has grown but he still wants to achieve a lot more. It's just fantastic and friendly a home from home for all of us. A big thank you to nickel in supporting our son and us as parents. You say nickel in our house and we all smile. "

"Fantastic organisation run by dedicated, passionate people. The trainees are super happy and engaged - I came across the business by accident and as so glad I did. I wish there were more places like Nickel Support for those with learning disabilities. It is so important for them to feel included and worthwhile. Fantastic energy from everyone involved, I hope they inspire others to set up their own organisations like this. My sister has learning difficulties and I just wish she lived nearer so that she could participate and take advantage of the wonderful work Nickel Support does. They HAVE to win this award!!! Inspirational doesn't cut it, they are phenomenal. "

We are up alongside some brilliant organisations who are also doing fantastic work so the judges have a very tough job choosing a winner. But we will be keeping our fingers crossed and will let you all know how we get on in September.
